This 2026, the People in Red Barcelona Solidarity Gala celebrates its 16th edition, further consolidating its position as an international benchmark. On Monday, May 11, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya once again became the setting for a night where science, solidarity, and the city of Barcelona came together.

People in Red Barcelona 2026 delivered a vibrant edition, featuring a show hosted by Sílvia Abril and Toni Acosta, with a script by El Terrat. The evening kicked off with DJ Genna, and combined humor, music, and emotion through standout performances by Joan Dausà and Amaral, who created some of the most memorable moments of the Gala Solidaria. The celebration continued late into the night with music by DJ Fede Sardà and signature cocktails by Manel Vehí, including the exclusive People in Red Barcelona cocktail.

The culinary experience was led by chef Nandu Jubany and his team at Jubany Events, who designed a dinner especially for the occasion, showcasing their renowned standard of excellence.

Ambassadors Martina Klein and Alex Corretja renewed their commitment to the Solidarity Gala, helping to strengthen its visibility and international reach.

This year also marked the launch of the People in Red Barcelona Solidarity Award, created to recognize outstanding contributions to community health and social awareness. In its first edition, the award, a sculpture by Jaume Plensa, was presented to filmmaker and actor Eduardo Casanova for his bold perspective and his efforts to break down stigma.

Supported by the commitment and generosity of its attendees and collaborators, the Gala Solidaria raised 838,769€, a meaningful contribution to advancing research into infectious diseases.

People in Red Barcelona remains firmly committed to its mission: raising funds to support clinical research led by the Foundation for the Fight Against Infections, headed by Dr. Bonaventura Clotet. The foundation works to develop innovative strategies to strengthen the immune system and combat infectious diseases, which continue to account for 1 in 5 deaths worldwide.

Infectious diseases remain one of the major challenges facing science today and in the future. We are currently confronted with global threats such as emerging epidemics, the rise of antibiotic resistance, globalization, climate change, and natural disasters, all of which contribute to the spread of infections and highlight the urgent need for continued research.

THE SHOW

The event will bring together in one evening the participation of nationally and internationally renowned artists and collaborators, offering all attendees a solidarity night filled with humor, music, gastronomy, and surprises.

Silvia Abril y Andreu Buenafuente

The show will be hosted by comedians and presenters Sílvia Abril and Andreu Buenafuente. With a script by El Terrat (The Mediapro Studio), this well-known duo will take over the stage of the Sala Oval, leading the evening with their trademark humor while showcasing the chemistry and camaraderie they share both on and off stage.

Additionally, the internationally acclaimed theater company La Fura dels Baus, directed by Carlus Padrissa, will return. For the second consecutive year, they will present an innovative performance during the aperitif on the iconic panoramic terrace of the MNAC, a spectacle that will undoubtedly impress everyone.

A La Fura dels Baus acrobat will soar over the skies of Barcelona, captivating the audience with a musical performance that represents the rebirth of our ever-expanding and increasingly challenging research efforts.

MUSIC

This year, the Solidarity Gala takes on an international dimension as, for the first time in history, it will feature an artist traveling expressly from the United States to perform a unique act: Rufus Wainwright, who will play the piano and perform some of his greatest hits.

Rufus Wainwright

Rufus Wainwright, the acclaimed singer-songwriter, composer, and pianist of Canadian-American origin, is renowned for his unique style that blends baroque pop, opera, and folk.

In addition to his career as a singer-songwriter, Wainwright has successfully explored other artistic genres: composing operas, collaborating with internationally acclaimed symphony orchestras, and creating film soundtracks. His talent for reinterpreting classics is exemplified in his version of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, among many others. He is also known for his activism in LGBTQ+ issues and for using his art as a platform to promote equality.

The show will also feature a groundbreaking performance by one of the most acclaimed national artists of the moment: Rigoberta Bandini.

The singer, songwriter, and writer, who gained popularity with what are now musical anthems such as Ay, Mamá and Perra, has established herself as one of the most prominent woman in the current music scene. She stands out for her social critique and feminist advocacy through lyrics that celebrate freedom and everyday life. She is also known for her authentic style, which combines elements of electronic pop and literary influences.
